: That's probably the trick that Ray Irons showed me at R2K1: using SuperGlue
: to attach the ends of bungie cords to each other. I tried it last night,
: and it works great (so far). Tape the cord (black duct tape works well),
: use a CutzAll to get a clean cut, put a dab of glue on one end (get the
: glue that works on rubber) line them up and shove them carefully together.
: Ray then hid the joint within the web padeye on his boats. You could just
: use black tape to cover the joint and it would still look clean. .
Jim and all,
Sorry if I seemed secretive but I knew Joe would explain it much better.
: Ray claims the glue joints hold pretty well -- I gave my joints a good tug
: (I'm using this set-up for my spare paddle strap) but I'm not sure I want
: to trust my rear deck figure eight to the glue. I've used a water knot for
: that (that's the climber's term that Nick's diagram illustrates. .
My joints have held up since Aug. and still seem to be strong. I helped a fellow back into his boat at R2K1 after an unplanned wet exit. He was a little disoriented and uncooperative but ASKED if he could grab the bungie on my boat to help him get back in. I guess it looked too pretty to be useful. Anyway he yanked on it pretty good and it stretched a lot but held.
