Why bother with the wood veneer if you are then going to cover that with epoxy & glass? You'll be losing the warm feel of wood (which has already been disputed here) to the overlay of epoxy. You'll be gaining the aesthetics of wood but may be adding weight too. If your goal is the superlight paddle, I'd say stick to the carbon fiber composite.
