: I'm thinking about building a kayak for my son this winter...I am a
: woodworker but definitely not a boater. These kayaks looks so beautiful
: I'd really like the challenge.

: These questions have probably been asked and answered many times before but
: I'd sure appreciate the knowledge: 1. Is it necessary to have continuous
: strips? NO You can butt them or scarf them. I have the capacity to run no more than a 12' plank through my
: tablesaw and the kayak will probably be 17'

: 2. 4/4 lumber will result in 3/4" strips - everything I've read
: indicates that 5/8 strips are more pliable. Is this correct? Yes, however you may need only about a dozen of the 5/8 strips ,the rest 3/4.

: 3. Am I likely to get complete mismatch in color if I order long strips from
: a different source than I buy planed planks ? Probably not but wood is wood and some color variance is expected, perhaps appreciated.
If you are thinking about strip built go buy Nick Schade's book and others if you can. After reading that and watching this BBB you'll be addicted like the rest of us. Happy Building Terry
: Thanks
