Hi Martin,
I'm not exactly Ann Arbor (Muskegon area) but, I noticed there were no other takers on your message so I'll respond. I built three guillemots so far. I 've had them in water ranging from the East Florida coast to 6 foot swells in Lake Superior. I have yet to get a bad ride from this style of boat. It is very stable, yet rolling it is a piece of cake. I ran a extra strip of ash down the center from bow to stern to act as a keel. It isn't much but it seems to do the trick (Tracking wisze) without losing my manuverability on rivers. I like to paint the bottom of my boats w/ 2 part linear polyurathne because I want to high light the woodwork on the decks.
The only problem I've found is when I am playing in the surf with 5 to 6 foot waves. The back end tends to ride up on the wave causing the bow to torpedo under the water (at that point you kind of feel like your riding a yard dart). So, it takes abuse real well also.
I've had it them on 3 -5 day camping trips in Canada and have found the capacity to store gear great for my needs (although that depends on the size of hatches you put in). I have three hatches in my boats, one fore, one aft and one day hatch. These are the neoprene/palstic ring type that you see on comercial boats (I hate wet camping gear). I counter sunk the hatches into the deck.
I will send pictures of the boats to you as an attachment at your email address as I'm not to savy at posting them here (probably not that hard but I haven't taken the time to figure it out yet).
Contact me if I can help,
Mike Snell
