My search for suitable WRC for my Guillemot-L took me to one large lumber yard where I wasn't able to find a single board of WRC suitable for making strips and then another where I got in a little trouble with the manager for climbing three pallets high and sorting through every stick in the lot. I was able to find what I wanted though, some brown 8 foot 1 by 6 boards. I then hit HD and found they had enough clear 8-12 foot boards to build a dozen boats. There were many boards with wide flat grain, ranging from cream to pink to red in color. The WRC is smooth on one side and a little rough on the other. What is the best way to deal with the rough surface - power planer, hand plane, or sanding? Prior to ripping or dealing with individual strips? I was planning to bevel the edges with a plane or a rasp and not doing C&B. One last note: while explaining that I needed the wood to build a kayak, the salesman said he had taken a call recently from another guy who was doing the same thing. Anyone else at the Beach making a kayak?
