Actually, copyright law is more about "Usage" than anything else. I used to be a commercial photographer. You sell rights based on usage. You can't do anything about someone who gets a copy of one of your images... off the Web or anywhere else.

It's easy to get huffy about copyright issues. You want to take very explicit steps if you plan to pursue legal action on infringements. You would want to explicitly reserve the right and use the copyright symbol with a date. Specify that permission must be granted in writing, etc. You can join one of the photographer's organizations to get the exact wording.

I used to go through that on images that had commercial value in the Stock Photography marketplace. I guess I don't really care now that I'm out of the business. A nice way to handle it is to reserve the copyright and then grant blanket non-exclusive usage as long as credit is given.
