: John said "Rob had pictures posted on this board". If you don't
: want the public at large to use them, don't post them. If you do the
: publication yourself, the subject matter becomes public domain. Some other
: guy just incurred (and caused) a lot of expense to discover that.
We are getting way off topic here, but everything posted to this board is copyrighted by whoever wrote it. It is not public domain just because it was posted on a public forum. The act of "fixing" the work by publishing it on this forum grants the author all the rights reserved in copyright law.
That said, people need to understand that when they post something to this board that others might quote it in their responses. The software does this automatically. And they must also understand that I may keep whatever they post available indefinitly and possibly move it to a different URL. For example I periodically move messages to the archive.
However, I do not feel I have the right to use the material offered on this board to create a book. I would be obligated to ask permission to publish any quotes. I could use ideas posted here without permission, but I would have to put it into my own words. However, I am using a screen dump of the index page in my catalog. Titles such as the subject line of the messages are not protected by copyright. So I can also publish the link below with it's title and not infringe on any copyright
You may print copies of anything published here for your own use, but to take a picture posted here and re-publish would be an infringement of copyright.
