Do the CLC designs require mechanical deck fasteners to the shear rail, or can the deck be bent and taped in place until epoxy cures?

While I like the look of smooth wood and no fasteners, I have experimented on other projects using wide, flat-head brass wood screws. You screw them in until the bottom of the screwdriver slot is almost even with the top of the wood. Using a belt sander, the brass screw-head is carefully sanded down until flush with the wood. This leaves what appears to be brass "pins" (diameter of the screw head) that are flush along the edge. Of course it makes it extremely difficult to remove these screws, but when the wood has a nice dark color, the brass really stands out. Would this concept work when used in conjunction with the bent deck that is epoxied in place? - or, should I just stick with standard fasteners?
