I'm around your size and agree with the others not to go too big. I paddled a Pygmy Tern 14' and an Osprey Standard recently and much preferred the Tern. I liked the hard chines for maneuverability and it didn't feel as large on me or as sluggish.

I'm probably going to build a Shearwater Merganser 16. It seems like the right size, I like how it sits lower in the water, and I'm looking for a more narrow kayak that I can grow into as a paddler. Look around and see if you can find anyone in your area with boats you can paddle. It really helps clarify what you like when you don't really know what that is yet. But then just decide and you will probably love whatever you build.
