Kurt-

Featherboards are a definate safety tool when used right. I set my featherboards too tight to the fence thinking it would keep the board from kicking sideways and instead the board bound up and kicked back... and me putting my thumb on the other side of the blade didn't help. Many stitches and skin grafts later, I am finishing my Shearwater Atlantic 19' with ready-made strips from Classic Boat Kits:

Their strips fit together so tightly that you will have to pull them apart when unpacking, and the wood they use is top quality.
