it sounds like your yak worked out well for weight, very interesting that the satin doesn't take much resin and that you laid it in several steps - seal, one layer, then next. did you starve the first layer a bit?

but on the satin when you said:

that's the real question - i wonder if actually the satin would drape better because even though it looks finer woven, when youlook closely each strand goes over 4 or 6 or 8(depending on the weave) of the 90 deg strands before it goes under the next 4 or 6 or 8. thats the reason why i think it may drape better.

the issue i'm wondering about is if there are some complicated compound curves or bumps, would the satin conform better than the same weight plain weave?
