I suggest that you look at Tom Moores book. It shows the external strongback. I prefer it since it provides a stiffer platform. I am building Joe's Return (~90% finished) and his support is first class. Nick is also providing first class support through this bulletin board as you can readily see. You also leave the forms in place when you strip the deck. The deck/hull joint is not a problem - actually the joint is easier in Joe's boats since there is a distinct angle change which makes it easier. Nick's Guillemot is a smooth transition which is a little bit harder.

Note that both boats have quite different characteristics.
