John, I'm making a strip deck on a Cormorant 16 S&G hull. I screwed deck beams to the sheer every foot, applied tape to the deck beams and sheer clamp, and stripped the deck using 1/4 X 3/4 red cedar. I also made a dotted line down the center using white pine. I'm almost done fairing the deck and will glass with 4oz cloth. Then I'll remove the deck and sand and glass the inside with 4oz cloth. Then, remove the deck beams and glue the deck to the sheer clamps. I'll fill the screw holes in the hull sheer prior to painting the hull and adding spanish cedar rub rails. Not sure about the cockpit yet, but I am thinking of alternating red cedar/white pine vertical strips for a combing spacer with a light colored plywood combing edged in 1/8" spanish cedar.
Good luck with your deck. It was not as difficult as I had imagined it to be.
