For me it would come down to two things: Is it going to look good? And, will I survive sanding that dirty mess? I've seen graphite details that look really cool. I'm not sure I could bear the mess that stuff must make. Ted Moores (i.e. KayakCraft/CanoeCraft) suggests wet sanding it with steel wool; which takes care of the dust problem I guess.
