: I finished building a router jig to cut the rib mortises in the gunwales of
: the greenlander I have underway, what i did to get more sheer was to let
: the 2x4 im using sit out for the last two (very wet) weeks with about 60
: lbs. of scrap iron hanging from it this worked very well. I want to use my
: 7 1/2" freud thin kerf to split the 2x4 after i rout the mortises,
: this will take two passes on my table saw. Can any one point out at any
: problems I'm liable to run into? I've probably got 3" of curve in
: 16'. Thanks.

Why do you want extreme sheer in your kayak? If this is your first SOF I strongly suggest you reconsider using the curved gunnels. Almost all Greenland kayaks have low sheer with the exceptions having a moderate amount. Some older Greenland kayaks have high up-turned sterns but this is from added on pieces not as a result of full length sheer in the gunnels. Your gunnels having 3" curve in them will have at least 2" more sheer depending on the deck beam angles.
There is always a chance that the gunnels will not bend the same even though you cut them from the same 2x4. You can sometimes even them up with a plane if the uneven bend is not too extreme.
