Well done!!
I had a good laugh but mostly because It sounded a lot like my first time fiberglassing.
It gets easier every time you do it.
Thanks for sharing your story.
Ben Staley
: Good morning everybody,
: here it is right now 10:18 hours and it´s overcast abd cold. I had a
: sleepless night after spending all yesterday afternoon, 4 hours glassing
: my guillemot hull.
: Today my back is kaputt, my hand do cramp easily and I´m still in love with
: my boat. Hardly any air bubbles, and all the smears and spots on the wood
: have dissapeared. By the way, I used, by a severe mistake of mine, two
: different woods,
: mahagony and oukume, so the boat looks quite distinctive. Each form has a
: different colour, I´ll try to find out how to send a picture.
: My two biggest mistakes were: -Too much epoxi in one batch, I spread too much
: on the cloth LOOSLEY with the result thAt this loosely wetted glass became
: impermeable and traped absolutely all the available air underneath. I had
: a terrible time getting all the bubbles out, but I found out the best way
: to remove them is rubbing them out with your finger (gloved of course) I
: called my wife down, I was in the embankment?, and she donned latex gloves
: and of she went rubbing them out.Ba that time I was already in panic.
: - Only one squeege. Best thing to apply epoxi is the squeege, imho, but
: having only one it got so smeared I coul hardly hold it, and is now glued
: to the floor under my boat, I dropped it there yesterday and forgot.
: - Wear tight fitting trousers. I lost mine half way through the proceedure, I
: could not pull them up with my epoxied gloves and I could not stop to get
: rid of the gloves because the stuff was getting hard fast, my hardener
: works down to 5° C.
: But having a look todday I´m quite satisfied. I have a glassed hull, a new
: squeege stuck to the floor and one nice transparent puck.
: By the way I only used 1 liter of epoxi approx. but have to do several fill
: coats and the deck may be this evening. With all my new expertise that
: should be easier.
: Ok, thought I had to get rid of this,
: Joaquin
