Sanding disks work OK. Putting a router bit in it wont work - you cant ( or at least I cant ) hold the drill still enough to control it. Also, the router bit needs a lot higher RPM. Same true with a drill press- too slow.
I havent tried carbide abrasive bits, but I suspect you'd find it slow going and difficult to control. Perhaps if you clamped the drill in a vise, and held the work...
If the drill is variable-speed it makes a great screwdriver, and that bit is readily available.
: Maybe a dumb question, but if I have an electric drill, is there a good
: reason why I can't put various bits in it other than drill bits? For example
: those little sanding or cutting accessories that go with Dremels or even
: router bits? I assume those other tools have different speeds or maybe
: even better speed control, which could be an issue, but since the drill
: bit holder is adjustable, I don't see why it couldn't hold them safely.
: Patsy (ducking in case what I'm suggesting is totally stupid and dangerous
: just to avoid spending money on more tools)
