Don't duck, I almost never see flames fly on this board. It sounds like you might be trying to avoid the router. I didn't want to buy a router either. I ended up borrowing a friends. You can rent them too.

I pondered the alternatives including using molding planes (now I'M ducking). There are some cool beadless ideas out there. Who was it that used a laminate trimmer to cut strip bevels right on the boat - the title 'Beadless in Seattle' comes to mind but I can't find the article.
