I'm in the beginning stages of building a Coho (hull is wired ready to align and glue seams) so I can only go by the manufacturer's recommendations. Pygmy recommends "either one or both sides" of the hatch lips and "both sides of your bulkheads". They also recommend a fillet and glass tape on both sides of the stern bulkhead and the only bow side of the forward bulkhead for convenience.

Since you are planning on expedition use, I would think the conservative approach would be to build strong. I plan to, not for expedition use, but to handle my weight (230).
