I'm carving another paddle and the handplane just isn't the best for the blades near the loom but my borrowed spokeshave was not working well either, lots of chatter and tearout.....couldn't have been me so must be the bevel angle

I went with 30 degrees.

I do feel a little guilty since my method for sharpening it is to hand it to my friend vince who works in the metal fabrication dept. at the plant I work for and he grinds it on the high tech surface grinder while I go back to playing on the computer and daydreaming about working on boats.

Can't wait to get home and try it out!!
