I used white oak. I'v seen the term "White bending oak" used and wonder if it has more to do with the direction of the grain.
what is your geographical locaion?
On the West coast there is Edensaw (in Port Townsend, WA) which sells white bending oak. I couldn't get thier website to work today though.
