: With the Port Oford ceder; out of 11 ribs, 3 were keepers. We had problems
: with runnout, ribs snapping, ribs folding in on themselves. It was a mess.
: The POC had been soaked for 2 weeks. When we switched to white oak (that
: had been soaked for one week) our success rate went up to 8 out of 10. Our
: oak ribs were narrower than the ceder ribs @ 7/8 inch. With a hard wood
: there is no need to have as beefy of ribs as Morris suggests. This also
: helps bring down the weight caused by using hard wood.

: The Greenland frame with the White Oak ribs is very sturdy. More more so than
: my Walrus frame. Just a note: The gunwhales on the greenland are POC. The
: POC was only mildly successful in this use. We have spotted micro cracks
: in places.

Thanks Roger, guess I'll use the POC for stringers and use some ash I have hanging around for the ribs.
