You will be plaing a flat 3/8 to 1/2 inch wide around the bow and stern hull. Then you glue or epoxy thin strips (1/16 or 1/8 inches thick) to build a wear strip. I used cherry on my two kayaks, but you can use any wood that bends easy.

As a first time builder, let me suggest that you buy Nick Schade's book, "The Strip Built Sea Kayak. I and Others on this board use it for our strip building bible.
