Jim,
I am using the system that Eric at Shearwater Boats suggests. It consists of a threaded rod that pulls up on a bar fitted below the deck. A slick system that should ensure a tight fitting hatch. Also check out Ross Leidy's site for info on the Leidy Lids which consists of a bungee hold down system that is also very slick and reportedly keeps things dry.
