but can i see the nut on the underside and that the o-ring seals the shaft when it is pushed down?

if so, i see the pad for the hook just an inch or so away. What if one combined the hook with the nut so that one twists the fitting to release the bungee and most of the tension and then the fitting will pop up easily for one to retract the hatch. that way the fitting is held down and also the tension could be maximized.

i like the way you placed the knob in the strip.
