: I've just noticed a few lumps in the glass after two coats of epoxy on the
: hull of my Ches 16. They are big enough (one the size of a quarter) that
: they will not disappear as I continue to fill the weave. They are ugly
: spots on an otherwise satisfactory job. Should I try to cut them out and
: patch them? If so, how?
Sand the glass off with 80 grit in a ROS. If you are very careful you can sand only the glass off and not cut/remove the resin coated wood. If you cut into bare wood you'll have a discolored "halo" around the spot.
Sand under bright light and look carefully as you sand. You’ll see the glass as a white pattern as you sand. Sand ONLY until the pattern disappears. Use a low speed and light touch with the sander.
Then apply a patch of glass overlapping the hole, wet-out , fill coat and feather smooth.
All the best,
