Joe Greenley posted a photo awhile back of a kayak he crated up for shipment overseas (or maybe just transcontinental).

He built an OSB crate that would protect the boat from rough handling by shippers.

Get a quote on an 18" x 24" x 18' x 80lb? crate to be "top-loaded"--that way they don't set a 3000# pallet on your boat.

They shouldn't care if it's a kayak or a coffin. They generally only need size, weight, and value. And special instructions, like top-loading.
