In Response To: Strip: Straight end forms (SMehder)

: Having spent time making a straight box beam and good stations, I find that
: the end forms (cut from 1/2" BC plywood) has curves in them. Any
: suggestions? Do I need to recut these out of 1/2" MDF, or is there a
: way to straighten them. Am building the Night Herron and don't have much
: room on either side to laminate a stiffner 90 degrees (parallel to the
: water line, perpendicular to the centerline).

: Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

some ideas:

- double thickness ply or triple w/ 1/4in ply on outside but not to edge

- the simplest would be to screw the endform flat on a worktable, erect the 1/2forms and put slightly lower stiffeners on the sheer line in between the 1/2forms. let set up and remove screws and do the other side for a stiffish assembly.

- it'll also depend on your strongback approach. for the external, put in more upstands. for the internal use the strongback. some have double the endform and inserted the end inside the strongback as a sort of morise and tenon setup - careful on alignment here.

-or carefully inset one crap strip on the shear, gluing at ea 1/2 form and keeping straight thru the process while setup.
