My first boat turned out to be a bit heavy, so instead of the 7-1/2 oz. glass I used on it, the boat I am planning for my son (and future compulsory kayaking partner) will use two layers of 3.25 oz. Larry at Raka assures me this will be a substantially lighter layup without sacrificing anything in the way of strength. My question is, what is the best technique for this? Should one layer be applied and allowed to cure before adding the second layer? I picture the second layer not wanting to lie down very easily. Or should both layers be wetted out at the same time? I wonder if it would be hard to get the epoxy through both layers, and if it is too easy to get wrinkles in the bottom layer that can't easily be pulled out.
