Jon by scantlings do you mean half-breadths??I know at 9 ft the bottom pannels will be 11 3/4 or 12 3/4 the first will give a beam of approx 24" the second approx 26'.The top will be 12 7/8 or 13 7/8 this is the max beam(at 9ft?) .I have the side panel measurments but am still trying to figure out the bottom panel. Question?? Why is the max beam of a kayak given for the top only ?wouldn't you be concerned with the bottom that is what is in the water ?I am sure my ignorance is showing and I apologize but i have wondered about that for a while.last question is 24 inches on the bottom a fairly stable kayak or should I go wider(deadrise will be 2 inches)? JON when I get more measurement I'll send them to you bear with me as i try to work through this.

: There are methods for figuring out center of buoyancy, etc, from drawings,
: but they are too complicated to outline here and involve the use of a
: planimeter. Maybe you could build a model for testing in your bathtub. It
: sounds to me like 9 feet is a bit off-center unless your hull form is very
: different at one end than at the other. If you would like, e-mail me your
: scantlings and I will run them through my hull design program. This would
: give at least a ballpark figure for centers of buoyancy and flotation.
