Briane, what's the hull shape? width? Is it a hard-chine shape? I'm not a great advocate of primary/secondary being adequate terms to describe handling but if it's a skinny hard chine kayak I don't think there's any way around it, skinny hard chine kayaks are twitchier than more compound shapes. With greater dificulty accomodating reserve buoyancy without increasing windage tremendously.
