: Brian, obviously you are aware that no way can a SOF have those concave bow
: and stern crosscuts the Nordkapp has?
Of course not. I'm not trying to duplicate the Nordkapp; I was just using it as a reference point.
: I suspect it is these combined with
: the relatively moderate rounded cockpit area that give it the wonderful
: trade off of conflicting properties it has.
There are certainly a lot of things you can do with 'glass that you can't do with wood and fabric.
: Its partly the above but also your description overall that makes me think
: the problem is low initial stability. The secondary probably is nothing to
: boast about either, but enough. Low initial would make it easy to lean
: into regular waves of almost any description, but be a pain when the waves
: are random.
: Was that a case of refracting wave fronts, or waves running against a tidal
: flow? Sometimes one even gets this behind an island of suitable size...
I'm not completely sure of all of the causes of the chop. Reflections off the shore were certainly a factor and I suspect that there may be a lot of boulders on the bottom in this area, as there are a lot of rocky islands around and a shoal ~200 yards offshore. Wind added to the chop, too. It was just ugly water.
