Go for it. Cedar has been used for canoe ribs for well over 100 years, so if the size is right and the wood bends micely, then I see nothing to worry about.
The only "if" in htat endorsement was for the size. If your plans called for oak, which is stronger for its size than cedar, then you might need a bigger cross section on cedar ribs than on oak ones.
