: I am just about to the glassing stage of my first Kayak, the "Great
: Auk". So far everything has gone fine. I am concerned about the
: glassing stage as I have never worked with this material. In Nick's book
: it talks about glassing the hull and deck outside followed by the hull and
: deck inside. The two parts are then attached to form the completed kayak.
: Is there a problem with glassing the inside of the hull and deck and than
: attaching the hull and deck together before glassing the exterior. If it
: were done in this order it seems you could then sand and fill the exterior
: joint and then glass all of the exterior. Any comments welcome. Irv

Hi Irv
The idea here is that you can plane and sand the exterior while still on the forms. Then glass the exterior to give enough strength so you can sand the interior of the hull and deck. If you have somehow managed to finish planing and sanding the interior of the hull and deck before glassing the exterior without things coming apart or otherwise doing any damage, then by all means glass the interior first.

I don't know if anyone has acomplished it in this order before. Pretty risky!
