:but you can probably get a good chem.-bond even up to 48 hrs.

Bert,

You should check the literature for the epoxy that you are using as for time between coats. I have seen some epoxies start to get that waxy coating "amine blush" within 24 hours under certain conditions. You should never epoxy over this. It will not bond and will lift or orange peel.

Do some more checking and hopefully more feedback on the bulletin board.

I always use thin coats and recoat when you can touch the surface without leaving a finger print, but still slightly tacky. Usually in about 6-8 hours is the time I use. If I can't finish things up in this time, I give it at least 48 hours to cure, then use a Scotch Bright pad and do a wet sand with it to remove any surface wax. If I need a structural bond over this I will then use 60 or 80 grit paper. If it is just filler coats, the Scotch Bright treatment is sufficient.

I always use the wet sand method, as the surface waxes on the epoxy will just gunk up any sand paper when used dry. So scrub it clean, then sand it if necessary.

Good luck

Tom
