I think the problem with WRC for sheer clamps is putting nails through it. Small dimensions of WRC split easily when nails are driven through it. I have used it to great success on a few skin-on-frame kayaks, plus on a plywood on frame (kind of like 'sheer' clamp at the sheer chines and keel) kayak. I drilled pilot holes in my cedar stringers and used screws instead of nails.
