Jay, this is one of those situations where 4oz s-glass is worth considering,,I know everyone thinks it's waste of money but I built a coho with one layer and a double layer on the bottom center panels. It's been through 3yrs of use in trips and the only real damage is a collection of little white impact fractures above the doubled layers. The bottom has no scratches into the wood,, of course the Chesapeake is mostly mud but this kayak gets sat in on a wood dock (nail heads), layed down on concrete ramps, and used in the surf. Then again another boat with two layers made of 6 and 4 oz is equally bomb proof at half the cost. But if there was no serious damage maybe you made it just right?
