: ...it comes to mind that it is simply too narrow down at waterline level:
: both at cockpit and near bow and stern. Looks too like you've made it as
: narrow as possible even overall: not more than one fist on each side at
: hips?
For me, it's hips + 1 1/2 fists, or ~20" wide at the sheer. Considering the low freeboard (2-2 1/2") and modest gunale angle (17 degrees), I'd estimate the width at the waterline to be 18 1/2"-19", which really isn't all that narrow.
: But being as low as it is, if the bottom were wider at cockpit, secondary
: might be minimal. So what remains? More fullness towards bow and stern?
: -> more buoayncy, slightly higher ride. Might turn out equally fast or
: faster. Would still be as narrow, but slightly higher volume.
That's the gist of my thinking.
: Isn't that deck almost flat?
The aft deck is flat, which is typical of Greenland boats. The foredeck actually has more volume than typical.
: If so, only way to lift sheer line is to make
: deck higher, and really add volume....
I won't do that, as I want a low aft deck and coaming. That's one aspect of the boat that I'm really happy with. It makes rolling, sculling and balance bracing a snap.
