In Response To: Skin-on-Frame: Steam Bending Ribs *Pic* (Nick Schade - Guillemot Kayaks)

Next thing you know, you'll be carving paddles out of 2x4s and wearing one o' them funny black neoprene hooded sweatshirt thingies... ;)

Judging by the yellow cedar, pre-cut ribs and pegged deck beams, I take it that you're using Robert Morris' book as a guide? Did you manage to find green or air dried yellow cedar? I tried bending ribs cut from kiln dried 5/4 cedar flooring and ended up with a lot of pungent-smelling scrap. :(

Kerfing the ends is nice touch. Did you bend them to shape then peg them? Are they glued?
