: Is there an industry standard on spraydeck sizes? If so what are they? I
: built a Guillemot 17 and a Great Auk 17. I bought a spraydeck from
: Kayakstore.com and it is a little large on the Guillemot and too small for
: the Great Auk. On the next one I build I would like to get it just right.

Coaming sizes tend to be varied. But you are the one building the thing, so you can make it any size you want. Alter the plans a bit to build a coaming that is shaped and sized so you can fit in easily.

If you can, make the coaming early in the construction process. If you don't want to commit good or expensive woods at this time, you can make a life-sized mockup from scrap or cheaper wood.

Any jigs or forms you have to set up for making the coaming mockup will work just as well wfor your final coaming, so you are not really losing any time. Keep the forms on hand, and you can make any future coamings exactly the same size, so you can use the same sprydeck or spray skirt with any of your boats.

Carry this with you into the dealer, and try on whatever sprayskirts/spraydecks you can find. If it does not fit an off-the-shelf commercial product, then go back to the drawing board and expand the plnas a bit to make it come up to either some standard commercial size, or to match a spraydeck or spray skirt you have already purchased.

Hope this helps.
