David, I don't have experience with fabricating carbon paddles but from what little I've seen of fancy paddles the tough british ones aren't particularly light and have a rim of dynel cord around the edge of the blade. I think of Lightnings as being particularly tough with high thread count s-glass as part of the laminate in some of the blades. Tough and 100% carbon don't seem to go together.
