Other: Knee braces/hooks

I'm fine tuning my new Guillemot Expedition. I have a very comfortable carved seat and what promises to be a comfortable NSI backband. I used 4" thick minicell for the seat and carved it to 3/4" under the buttbones sloping up to the full 4" just behind the knee. I will need to lower both as soon as I install the knee braces. The Guillemot recessed coaming provides some purchase, but I think that I need a little more security for rolls and bracing. I remomber reading about some knee hooks that were carved out of 2x4" blocks and glassed to the boat. How does that style work? Is it difficult to wet exit or enter the boat with such a system? Once I have completed this part, I will need to recarve the seat lower both at the buttbones and especially under the thighs. Any experiences that you would wish to share?
