maybe try some very very simple sketchesthe and draw some possibilities out now before you go any farther. experiment w/ some pencil as its so fast and you can maybe get clear in your mind what you really want.

so some suggestions to sketch:
- sketch removing your decorative strip and placing it above the sheerline you have more space to manouever betw sheer and water line.
- sketch the same thing but doing the parallel strips up from the waterline.
- sketch ignoring the water line and putting in accents that fall in line w/ the strip pattern rather than the water pattern.
- sketch an alternating pattern of strips above the waterline and below the sheer(prob not so nice)
- sketch ripping the inbetween strip for half its lengtht say into 2 or3 or 4 rips, splaying those and fillin in between w/ all inbetweeners as cheaters.

i suspect that one of these approaches may slam right out at you as a good way to go. Or do a b.s. mockup on the floor or on the forms and write down what you like so you can remember and balance the respective features. maybe staple down some rope or string or long strips of paper to simulate what may happen. or take the photo and sketch on top of that.
