I started on the Montana paperwork. Kayaks don't need registration, but I would need registration if I put a sail on it. And yes, they do check. I have a buddy who got a $65 fine. I'm tempted to engrave the same HIN on all my boats. I'm only ever going to sail one at a time. When they ask the length, I'll tell them 17' (close enough), and the color: "wood". I'll put the numbers on a removable plaque and only put the plaque on when sailing. Of course, this is the same attitude that got me the tongue-lashing before.

I had a FWP agent tell me that a kayak with a sail needs registration, but a kayak with a parafoil kite would not.

If my brother and I 'catted' our Chesapeake 17's together for sail, would they each need an HIN, both need the same HIN, or only one need a HIN?

Do Hobie Cat owners have to have separate HIN's for each hull?

Do golf carts need offroad vehicle licenses like motorcycles and quads?

Do campers in the WalMart parking lot need recreational vehicle registrations?

Do you need a fishing license to 'catch' a fish in the Pike Place market?

Is innertube registration required in Ohio? Is a child's RC sailboat a 'watercraft'?

Can Lighning Boy roll yet? :)
