I'm almost done with my hull but next time I think I would build a square frame out of 2x2 around the ends of the boat. I could clamp sticks to it that push against a strip from any angle. In my case, it wasn't that the strip wouldn't twist. Getting hold of it and controlling it was my problem.
You can also soak/steam that section of the strip and then force it in place without glue. Go back and glue it after it dries.
