for me, vaclav's looks like a hodgepodge of techniques in order to semi fit one difficult area to another. To me, many of the lines and materials conflict and makes a 'problem' area look even more awkward and difficult.

so, i'd maybe look at one of 3 other approaches:

1/ accept the discontinuity and totally strip it up separately following the keel so that there is a sharp line between the hull approach and the skeg/keel. color match or not depending on other parts/strips. but make the skeg with a consistent approach.

2/ suck it up and steam and rip the ends of the existing strips and MAKE them conform as best as possible(accepting staircases or any small probs) using nicks and or shawns previous post method or string clamps or inside clamped or glued nubs.

3/long mitre joint the ends of the strips at the intersection so that the long continuous line of the strips continue out to the keel/skeg outer edge.

on any one of the previous put on slim/consistentish outer keel/stem strips if desired.
