Kind of fun to try a few different setups, but I have to vote for horizontal frames, especially on my 15" monitor. It's easy to tweak the frame sizes for scqanning the index vs. reading a specific post, but hard to read the compressed 3-word-wide index on the verticals.

But then, I may need to try going back to frameless via preferences...
