: I'd like to post a question about deck designs & construction but am
: struggling with an image post. Does my image have to have a URL on the web
: or can I load something direct from my c drive?

Your image needs to be stored on a diskdrive somewhere that is constantly online, and have a URL.

When someone clicks on a posting, the text from Nick's bbs is sent to theri computer. If there are additional picture files, then those images must be found (on the internet) and sent to the viewer through the internet, too.

If you have a DSL, ISDN, T1 or similar highspeed data connection on your computer, AND you leave your computer on all the time, and connected to the internet all the time, then someone can access the file on your computer's disk drive ( C: or any other letter)

This way the image is only posted once, and in one location, but it can be used in various other posts.

Since most of us don't have such facilities, we borrow or rent space on some commercial internet service which IS constantly online. Photopoint used to be a good, free, site, but alas, that is not the case anymore. check the postings for the past week and you'll find a few suggestions on other sites that are free where you can post your pictures. Personally, I sometimes use a free geocities.com address which I obtained through Yahoo.com.

If you have an internet account of your own then usually your internet provider allows you a certain amount of personal webspace. Typically this is 5 to 10 megabytes, and you may have the option of renting more space. If you are using a public terminal, such as libraries and schools frequently provide, then you may not have such an option, and you'll need to find a free online storage area.

Hope this helps.
