: Reality outpasses fiction as usual. I've read from another boatbuilding site
: that some mason built a boat's hull with concrete, then made the bulkheads
: of adobe, then added flower-stands on deck to make his boat look nicer!
: The boat sank at dock even before starting her maiden voyage.
Guess he should have read the notes on this website first
There are quite a few concrete kayaks out there, and more get built each year. It is a regular contest for engineering students, with schools competing against each other. My first introduction to this strange practice was when I was SCUBA diving many years ago in Danville IL and surfaced practically in the middle of a concrete canoe race between U of Illinois and Purdue students. The web sites devoted to such craft are fascinating. I see Amazon.com even has a book titled: "Concrete boatbuilding; its technique and its future"
by Gainor W. Jackson
It is not the material that the boat is built out of, but rather the combination of the design of the boat and how the material is used that matters. You can use the same concrete to make an anchor.
