Right where you have the strips in your picture, next to the strongback, is the easiest and most logical place for your strips. If you have glue drips falling on your strips, you're applying too much glue. You can always cover the strips with a piece of plastic and tack the inside edge to the strongback.

If you have to walk somewere else for each of your strips, it's just a waste of time.
